As a professional home stager, Sandy Sullivan is an expert at transforming cluttered rooms into attractive houses ready for sale. If only reinventing her life were as easy as choosing the perfect paint color. She's eager to put her family's suburban Boston home on the market, to downsize, and to simplify her own life. But she must first deal with her foot-dragging husband and her grown son, who has moved back home after college to inhabit the basement "bat cave." After reading them the riot act, Sandy takes a job staging a boutique hotel in Atlanta recently acquired by her best friend's boyfriend. The good news is that she can spend time with her recently married daughter, Shannon, in Atlanta. The bad news is that Shannon finds herself heading to Boston for job training, leaving Sandy and her southern son-in-law, Chance, as reluctant roommates. If that's not complicated enough, Sandy begins to suspect that her best friend's boyfriend may be seeing another woman on the side. Filled with characters who are fresh and original, yet recognizable enough to live in your neighborhood - plus plenty of great tips and tricks for fixing up houses, and lives - this is a wise and witty story of letting go and moving on. Best Staged Plans is Claire Cook at her most humorous and heartfelt.

Best Staged Plans A Novel (Audible Audio Edition) Claire Cook Janet Metzger Brilliance Audio Books

Claire Cook’s Best Staged Plans was a very enjoyable read for me, being an empty nester myself I could relate to her situation: kids grown up, wanting a new chapter, and a husband who is happy with everything status quo. Simple things like not finding the right reader glasses really do become important at a certain age. For me it struck just the right balance between being true and really funny at the same time. And as an HGTV fan, I did enjoy the tips on house staging as well. If I had any issue with the book at all, it was the fact that the ending seemed a bit too neatly wrapped up. It’s as though the author was tap dancing her way to the finish line, at break neck speed. My suggestion would be to stop at the end of Chapter 37, then follow with a chapter that is subtitled – 12 months later. Have Sandy and Denise sit in a coffee shop and tell us from hindsight what happened to everybody, including the homeless lady. More relaxed, less breathless, giving the reader time to catch up and appreciate the story better. By all means check the book out if you are interested, and see if you agree.

Best Staged Plans A Novel (Audible Audio Edition) Claire Cook Janet Metzger Brilliance Audio Books Reviews

As soon as I started reading The Best Staged Plans, I knew that I was going to love this book! This is the first book that I have read from author Claire Cook, and she didn't leave me disappointed. The way she setup the storyline with characters such as Sandy and Denise makes it so easy to relate to them, it's as if Ms. Cook had been looking into my life! I found myself laughing so hard throughout the book, it made it really hard to put the book down, I just had to finish reading it! Sandy's interaction with the ponytail postal clerk dude was hysterical, I could actually see myself reacting to the dude in the same way. Sandy and Denise's escapade in Atlanta with Denise's wayward boyfriend made me think of some of the crazy stunts that I have done with my BFFs. One lesson to learn from their escapades, never ever mess with scorned women, you never know what they're capable of doing! The most heartwarming part of the story for me was when Sandy helped the homeless Naomi get back onto her feet. This part of the story made me stop and think, it made me appreciate and count my blessings, and it brought my compassionate side out. It reminded me that there are less fortunate people out there who need our help, so we should all strive to pay it forward and lend a helping hand to those in need. I would love to see Ms. Cook write a sequel to this book highlighting Naomi's story with a cameo appearance from Sandy and Denise. I loved how Ms. Cook provided some very neat educational details for her readers such as how to declutter, redecorate and stage your house; in addition to providing us with some delicious recipe ideas that I know I'll have to try! I was intrigued by how Sandy staged the boutique hotel Hot Chocolate in Atlanta. I would love to visit that hotel with it's decadent decor and chocolate frills! Finally, Ms. Cook provided a very real view into family dynamics, especially the varying generations ... the memories of mood rings and Friday night family games took me back down the path of my childhood. This book was so much fun to read, so add this book to your summer beach list, you won't be disappointed!
Sandy Sullivan is a professional stager who is at a point in her life where she herself would like to do some reinventing of her own. Anxious to get her own house on the market, she is at odds with her husband, and live-in adult son. After enough frustrating events, Sandy takes off to Atlanta to help out her BFF's boyfriend stage his boutique hotel in hopes that in her absence, husband and son will cooperate and get the house market ready. She questions her judgment when she finds out the boyfriend is a cheating low-life. But in her own special way, she handles the situation in comical form. Ms. Cook portrays Sandy as extremely kind-hearted and giving to those in need. She turns a woman's life around, shows extreme patience for her most eccentric client, and is cordial to her son-in-law. I finished reading this book right before a trip. The packing strategies Sandy uses I took upon myself to use as well. So glad I did. And best of all, the staging tips I have applied to my own house that is now on the market.

This is the first Claire Cook novel I have read. I am now on a Claire Cook reading marathon of all of her books. Best Staged Plans is a must read for those dealing with similar issues as Sandy Sullivan. It is more than just a novel. It's a DIY manual in disguise!
If life is a stage, and it's all about presentation, Sandra Sullivan is an expert. Especially in a tough real estate market, when "staging a home" for sale is extremely important.

Too bad that reinventing one's own life is not nearly as easy.

Just when Sandra thinks that she and her husband can finally sell their huge Victorian home and move somewhere simpler for the next chapter of their lives, she meets one obstacle after another. First, her husband and grown son would rather play and procrastinate than do the work. And Sandra is at a point in her life when the little things, like this foot-dragging behavior and finding the right reading glasses--especially since she's just accidentally wrapped her favorite pair and sent them off in the mail to her daughter--can make or break the journey.

So what is a woman to do? Well, Sandra accepts that staging job in Atlanta...the one offered by her best friend's boyfriend. And when she packs and leaves home, her message to the guys don't call me until the house is ready.

What Sandra meets at her destination will change her life in a whole new direction.

Full of colorful, lively characters and lots of laugh-out-loud moments, we also find those serious issues, like how one can suddenly find gratitude where one least expects to discover it. And how changing one's perspective on things can come in the blink of an eye. And how, sometimes, life dishes out something really unexpected that forces you to change how you view everything. Best Staged Plans is a blissful, highly recommended read which I've awarded five stars.
