Addiction and compulsion, add a bit of aboriginal mysticism and transformation with a slightly co-dependent love and you can arrive in an interesting place. Nothing quite as interesting as the scenario that Pavarti K. Tyler sets with this short story, but the elements that we are ‘told’ signify true love: self-sacrifice and thinking of the other first are all evident.I could have obsessed over Hugo and Bree: Abenaki legend was common where I used to live, and many of the old stories and tales from legions of different tribal groups had a curious mix of horrific elements even as they sought to teach, explain or remember. But, what emerges from the story of Consumed by Love is a carefully described warning, making you rethink that last love song or poem.
I was expecting far more scare in that all the lights on sort of way, instead the scare is in my own perceptions of love and what it means to be in love, and truly give of yourself. The extremes to which Bree accommodates Hugo’s needs, even as she is gaining a sexual fix from the man he used to be are symptomatic of her own dependency, a dangerous situation for all involved.
Most certainly a book for adults only, Tyler uses her ability with words to create a multi-layered visual story that will create far more questions than it answers. Both entertaining and precisely pointed in its unmasking of damaged psyche, this is a book for those who want to think for hours after the last page.
I purchased a copy of this title for my own library. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Consumed by Love A Short Story edition by PK Tyler Lane Diamond Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I will replay this story in my head over and over again for a long time. This was a dark and well written story and now I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.
Some love is so deep it is said to consume you. Some love actually does consume you, when your husband is not quite all human. A strange, yet gripping tale brought to you by one of today's most unique and wonderful authors. Not your traditional horror or love story. More a story of the things you will do to and for the person you love.
I had mixed feelings about this story. On one hand the extent of the love was heartwarming and on the other hand just plain stupid. The wife in the story could've made things easier on herself and husband but chose the hardest way. I can't say that I loved consumed by love, but I can't say I hated it. It was ok.
I've never read such a short story that has stayed with me for so long. I was enamored and disturbed all at the same time and I'm still thinking about it.
The author made me want to read it when part of me wanted to put it down yet I'm a bit of a wuss and usually don't read horror but this was EROTIC horror so I HAD to know what happened. I'm still not sure how I feel about it but I want to read everything I can by this author so that is good.
Definitely worth the $.99 and 1/2 hour of my time.
This is an exceptionally well-written tale of horror. Rather than going for shock value at every turn, the author beguiles with subtle and not-so-subtle clues, setting up a can't-turn-away atmosphere, as much as you might want to.
I don't often read horror, but I would certainly read more by this author.
The words flow beautifully past the carnage of their desire. I felt a pang of sorrow Bree and even Hugo, as I realized the damning affect of their love. Is it possible to be truly consumed by love, not in the sense of losing one's outer body, but one's inner self? I think it is quite possible to be blinded by the need to please someone and sustain them to a point where the giver is lost in that simple act of salvation.
This is a graphic tale by its nature, but the underlying message is rich. Ms. Devi's ability to paint a vivid portrait with her words is remarkable.
Pavarti uses 3rd omniscient very well to give both lovers perspective as the world they know crumbles to bits, dissolving in a flurry of blood and passion.
My favorite quote, possibly from anything I've read was "Evil is like water it seeps through the cracks and overflows from within."
Pavarti's depictions of the love making scenes are titillating, and I'm difficult to impress (Neil Gaiman's American God's sex scene gave me the best cliterection so far, but contenders are out there!)
If you want to be disgusted, enthralled, aroused, and entertained, I highly recommend!
